Teaching Experience Schedule
Teaching Experience Schedule
(Second Semester)
Follow the link below to view my current schedule. This schedule is just a guide at the moment. This is really our first true week into the new semester for our students, so it has been a bit of a transition. With the weather cancellations last week, it really has not been an accurate look at how things are going until these last few days. I now need to attend regular district meetings every Wednesday until 4:00 that fall under home school requirements or special ed requirements. I have chosen to combine students and I like this change.

I have the majority of my IEPs due this semester, so this scheduling allows me more contact time with each student's team... and many have a large team. I am case manager for over half of my students. I have just finished progress reports for all, except the ELC. Their reports go home at conferences (next week). Several of my students at ELC are moving to their home schools next year, so we have been tracking down this information to ensure a smooth transfer. Several of my monthly students have been seen quite a bit more due to equipment concerns, learner responsibilities, or additional challenges noticed by building staff. One of my biggest challenges is Skyward. It is not a user-friendly program for doing IEP paperwork and always takes me time to re-calibrate myself. The speech department in each school have been extremely helpful.. guiding me, answering my endless questions and sharing tips and tricks that save a great deal of time.
In addition, I have created a Google Calendar that highlights more accurate time slots.. especially on a daily basis. It is here that I add in all the IEP dates and special meetings or days off for students... additional reminders that need to be completed. Our whole district uses Google Calendar, and though I still have a great deal to add in, I like the way it is set up.
As far as observations, I would like to schedule one in March, one in April, and one in May. I would also prefer to use a variety of students, if possible, because I really could use the advice... especially with those that have additional needs. If we could at least get the March date on the calendar, that would be wonderful. I know it is asking a lot, but we are already in February and I think this month will go fast. Here are my first thoughts...
Does Monday, March 11th, 2:00-2:30 @ Wilson with CW & JW possibly work for you? If so, I can double check with their teacher for any weird school schedules tomorrow and verify that it works with her as well...
I have you down for March 11th at 2:00, Wilson. That's great. Sounds like you are fully into your role and that you have some good support...this is important. We will separate the observations from the three projects that are part of Teaching Experience II. So, what you will need to post on the due dates are the projects, not a video. Think of how the three projects can facilitate your work:
ReplyDelete1. Expanded Core Curriculum - is there a student for whom you are writing an IEP that you can use for this project...and, to use for writing goals for the IEP?
2. IEP...well, needless to say, you will have completed these forms. So, use what you are doing to demonstrate your abilities in IEP writing!
3. Formal assessment....for any of these IEP's, re-evals or initial, what kinds of formal assessments might you use? Use this for this Project.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Re: SPICE, I did send a kit home with Brooke as she did not have a complete one. I'm assuming that you have one that you can use with students. Let me know.

Hi Amy!
DeleteThis may not be set in stone, but here is what I am thinking so far...
1. Expanded Core Curriculum... I have several students in mind for this one. There are 2-3 at ELC that I think would benefit from this (one in particular that is showing signs of struggle in math that I would like to catch early), but I also think some of my older students (3rd grade) would do well with this too. This is one area where I need some guidance to become more streamlined. I'm hoping to reach a good system, but that is taking some time for me to weed through....
2. IEPs... I have to admit.. this one made me giggle. I feel like I am up to my ears in IEPs! Choosing one should not be a problem.... Did you know there seems to be an IEP season:)... I believe some call it spring, but in our neck of the woods it just seems to be meeting after meeting...:) I will say I appreciate the speech department immensely and all their quick tips (like creating a cheat sheet:).
3. Formal assessments... this one I have several options in all categories and two that I am leaning specifically toward at the moment. One of my students will have her three year testing before the end of the year. I want to test her, but am in the process of looking for a specific test that matches what I am need. At the moment, I am leaning toward TAPS or OPUS... I will be talking with her parents next week. As of this past week, I have another student that may be looking at a Re-eval. I am currently her case manager and am a little unsure about this process. I even called Rachel last night to chat, since she had done some of the initial testing to qualify her. I'm hoping to keep in touch with her regularly. She is an incredible resource... especially since I feel like she is a few steps ahead of me and has been wonderful at letting me know what I can expect next. It is kind of a weird situation... and one I did not expect to be in this year:).
As for the SPICE curriculum, I should have everything I need. I initially thought I was missing a piece, but Rachel let me know where everything was, so I think I am now ready to go.
I do not currently have any questions... just trying to map out the scheduling for this semester and dodge as many conflicts as possible. However, I will be beginning my questions list soon:)...
Have a great day and thanks so much for all your help and patience!!!
